Hey, It's Sierra

This is the fifth post in my blog! The week previous we did a course that was kind of in the shape of a breast cancer ribbon. It was very difficult as there were lots of short turns and I had to hold my horse out so that she stayed in those corners. That lesson was also difficult because I learnt not to get to ahead of my horse when we were jumping. When I did get to ahead of my horse it was difficult for my horse to tell when I wanted her to jump and it also made it hard for her to transfer the weight from the front of her body when jumping because I went into 2-point too early.

I just recently uploaded the fourth and last video for my youtube channel. Later on during the break I will most likely post my "TED talk" video which is mandatory for my project. It will include a short summary of my successes for my project and also things that I could have improved on during the project. I just recently had surgery so I wasn't able to ride and make a fifth video that I would have liked to make but I think four is just as good as five would have been. Again stay tuned for the "TED talk" coming soon on my youtube channel and thank you for reading and watching about my passion project!

Hey, It's Sierra

This is the fourth post in my blog! Two weekends ago my Grandma took me to the royal winter fair. I found it really inspirational and interesting because they were jumping as high as four foot five! At this point when im riding i usually jump two foot six. The reason I found it inspiring was because they taught me that if I try enough I can get to where those riders are one day. Last Sunday I did a fun new course that was herd to remember at some points. That video will be up soon as I just posted my video from a few weeks ago. If you watched my youtube video but didn't read the description and also don't know  some of the terminology here it is:

  • Stride: The act of forward movement by an animal, completed when the legs have returned to their initial positions.
  • Broken line: A sequence of 2 or more jumps that are not in a straight line.
  • Course: Sequence of 3 or more jumps in a certain order around the ring

Hey, It's Sierra

This is the third post in my blog! This weekend I did not go the farm because my instructor is competing in the royal winter fair. I am also not riding for the same reason the following week. Next weekend my grandma has also invited me to go to the royal with her. I am going to try to get back to the farm sometime this week to help out and see Raine (the horse I ride) If you watched my youtube video but didn't read the description and also don't know  some of the terminology here it is:

  • Stride: The act of forward movement by an animal, completed when the legs have returned to their initial positions.
  • Broken line: A sequence of 2 or more jumps that are not in a straight line.
  • Course: Sequence of 3 or more jumps in a certain order around the ring

Hey, It's Sierra

This is the second post for my blog! For the past 3 weeks in riding I have learned how to fix and recognize my own mistakes instead of having my instructor do it. This is important so that when you have your own horse and you don't have an instructor you can see what you are doing wrong.

The next 3 weeks will involve no stirrups. The stirrups are the things that hold your feet in, which attach to the saddle. This helps improve your leg muscle and balance.

Welcome to my blog!

Hey, It's Sierra

Welcome to my blog! On this blog I will be sharing my horseback riding experiences over the course of 9 weeks. I have been riding for 9 years total since I was 5 years old. I will be learning 3 new tricks or jumps that I have never learned before and I will be trying to perfect them over the course of these 9 weeks. Feel free to follow this blog if you are just starting to ride, if you are an experienced rider or just generally interested!
